Our research at the SafeToNet Foundation has shown us that what works best for parents is to try to see on-line issues through the eyes of their child. Like it or not our children rely on communicating, learning and consuming content on-line. The majority are incredibly tech savvie and understand better than their parents the risks on-line and also how to set their privacy settings and so on. In our opinion parents and teachers need to be taught about children’s digital lives by the children themselves. Most children do not want to view harmful content, be the victim of cyberbullying or unwittingly communicate with a sexual predator.
Please see “How can I understand my child’s digital world?”. We have a range of videos that have been created by young people to help give parents a better understanding of the apps they use and their on-line life. If you need any more specific information on this subject please email us on firstname.lastname@example.org and we will ask our Youth Advisory Board.
